Life Unplugged

Life in the 21 st Century is so fast paced. Everything is available to us at our fingertips through the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We tweet, text, Facebook, and Instagram telling the world about everything in our lives. We all know more about our friends and acquaintances than ever before and actually feel that we know them so much better because we are keeping up with what is going on in their lives through social media on a daily basis.

Social media overload is such an integral part of our society today. A recent survey polling’s showed that:

  • 72% of adults said they will not get over 5 feet away from their smart phones.
  • 40% would rather have a root canal than give up their social media.
  • 34% said they were afraid they would miss something.
  • 60% feel great anxiety if they are separated too long from their social media.

Unless God sends us a text, “facebooks” us, comments on our Instagram picture, challenges us on Words with Friends, or sends us a tweet, He might not hear from us. Because we all find ourselves so busy and caught up with our social media it’s hard to unplug and find time to seek God and to hear from HIM!

If you think about it, our lives are a lot like our smart phones. We need to be synced to God and His Word so we can have things downloaded into our daily lives to find direction, His purpose, and His will. Sometimes we may even need to power down completely. Then just like our phones, we’ll find that when we are powered up again our lives run much more smoothly. We, too, must have a time of daily recharging so that we are ready to face another day!

There’s an old song that says, “I just steal away and ask my blessed Lord to lead the way. I just steal away somewhere and pray.”

That’s what we need to do on a daily basis …. steal away. Unplug, and put our lives in “airplane mode.” As Psalms 46:10 (AMP) says, “Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God . . .” Take some time out to live life unplugged. Unplug from the online chatter and spend a little time each day with Jesus. Then, watch His hand move in powerful ways in your life! “Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.” Job 37:14 (KJV).
