Remembering the Resurrection

What a joy it is to serve the one true living God! Worship comes easily when we are truly in love with Him, and it flows like a river from our hearts and mouths. Being in His presence brings an overwhelming sense of peace and contentment; yet it may also bring conviction and repentance to the open and honest heart.

As beautiful as this experience with Jesus really is, why is it that we occasionally find ourselves with a lackadaisical attitude toward His spirit and a noncommittal approach to His Word? The precious becomes mundane as we allow His special touch to become commonplace in our lives. Whenever I find myself in this precarious situation spiritually, I remind myself that I need to take another look at the resurrection. Oh, not just the resurrection, but the course of events that led to that miraculous occurrence. Remembering the Resurrection will take you on a journey to the cross and back again. Allow your mind to absorb the horrific suffering that was placed upon our Savior as He proceeded to endure the death and burial and the ultimate miracle of resurrection. My eyes immediately fill with tears as I realize the depth of pain and suffering He endured for me and for you.

Advertisements that I saw of the movie, The Passion of the Christ, were nearly unbearable to observe. I could not bring myself to watch the DVD depicting the appalling and merciless tormenting and anguish placed upon my Lord. As horrendous as I am told that Mel Gibson portrayed the death of Christ, it could not have been exaggerated to the actual occurrence. It is simply difficult for me to accept the reality of the torment He endured.

Remember the Resurrection . . . the pain, the suffering, torment, humiliation and yet the glory of that haunting day. Beauty was formed out of the ugliness of the cross, and it is well described in this age-old song:

Up from the grave He arose,

With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,

He arose a Victor from the dark domain.

And He lives forever, with His saints to reign.

He arose! He arose!

Hallelujah, Christ arose!

We are given hope because of the resurrection! As we partake of the Lord’s Supper, we are reminded in I Corinthians 12:24 . . .”this do in remembrance of me.”

It is good to remember!
