Spring Into Action!

Today there is a maze of nutritional information that will confuse even the experts. Over 20 years ago I left a radical nutritionist’s office with my head spinning, not understanding a word she was saying. The woman was what you would call…a health “nut”. She told me things about my eating habits that I didn’t want to hear, much less do! Directing me to health food stores, I was even more confused. I’ll never forget that strange smell and how everything looked tasteless-blah. How was I going to survive this new lifestyle and make this dreaded change? Help! I needed a crash course in nutrition. That was over 20 years ago and I am still learning!

One of the most valuable lessons you can learn is how wonderful Biblical foods are. These include whole foods, fresh vegetables, juices, green leaf salads, herbs, nuts and seeds. I wouldn’t think of going back to my old lifestyle of feeling weighed down and drowsy after a lunch that consisted of cheeseburger, fries, shake and hot apple pie. The bonuses outweigh the baggage! Ring in the Spring with these timely tips:

  • Find a health food store knowledgeable in herbs and supplements and ask for a list of qualified nutritionists to choose from.
  • Purchase supplements and herbs in gels, capsules, liquid or powders whenever possible as they are easy to assimilate.
  • Build your own nutritional library. Purchase the pocket-size Health Handbook by

Louise Tenney, M.H., to carry in your purse.

  • Get outside; it’s good for the inside!
  • Always base your eating habits on God’s natural dietary laws for balance. Keep away from fad diets!

SPRING CLEANING

Fasting is the best detoxifier for cleansing your body of unwanted toxins and waste as it cleans your colon, bloodstream, liver, kidneys and gets the lymphatic system moving. You should detoxify your body one day a week (Monday is best after busy a weekend) and three times a year for a period of 3-7 days. The best times to detoxify are:

  1. January – after holiday celebrations
  2. April/May – late spring prepares the body for seasonal change and helps build resistance to colds
  3. September – change from summer to fall

SPRING FORWARD

Eliminate

Why?

Replace With

Diet and regular sodas, coffee and tea.

Hinders the ability of your liver to filter toxins by adding an additional burden.

Herbal teas, lemon water, freshly squeezed juices and purified water.

Refined sugar found in processed foods and snacks.

Destroys your B vitamin and upsets the calcium/phosphorus balance of the blood. One average size soda contains 9 tsp. of sugar.

Natural sweeteners. Best is stevia (herb), brown rice syrup, barley malt, honey, black strap molasses, maple syrup.

Hydrogenated oils like margarine, Crisco, fried foods and snack foods.

Speeds aging process and can create free radical damage, a precursor to cancer.

Natural cold pressed olive oil, flaxseed oil and real butter.

Refined products. (If it’s white, it’s not alright!)

Depleted of food value and vitamins. Contains no fiber which not only adds to poor elimination, but is a contributing factor to serious colon problems.

Whole grains and whole grain products (whole wheat bread, oatmeal, brown rice, etc)

SPRING IN YOUR STEP

Supplements are needed at times because of the way our food is processed and grown today. Some of the vitamins you might need are:

  • Vitamin A – for healthy teeth and good vision
  • Vitamin B12 – important for metabolism
  • Vitamin C – promotes wound healing
  • Vitamin D – for healthy bones
  • Vitamin E – helps protect against the effects of aging
  • Vitamin K – the clotting vitamin
  • Magnesium – relieves stress

SPRING PLANTING

Once you learn the basics, it will take time and commitment to plant and cultivate new truths and habits that will become a way of life for a lifetime. It doesn't’t need to be a time and mind-consuming endeavor. The best way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit. You reap what you sow! There are blessings by obeying the Levitical Laws. Pull a weed and plant a flower!
