I’ll Fly Away

By: Jane Cottrill

My summertime early morning routine includes getting up, pouring my coffee, and opening the blinds. As I gaze out on the yard, the birds come and go from my feeders. I live near a wooded area and several varieties can be seen at any time of the day. God’s creations are so intriguing and I often will find myself letting time pass without realizing it. Today I enjoyed the sun shining brightly with big lazy puffy white clouds passing by in the bluest of skies as cardinals, blue jays, sparrows, yellow and purple finches, and nuthatch all ate the buffet of my feeders. The birds do eventually fly away back to their nests or other feeding areas. Sometimes when they leave, I can see them soar high across the yards of the subdivision to the trees of my neighbors and beyond.

This morning as that routine unfolded my mind returned to the Sunday morning service as the worship team had led us in singing, “Behold He comes, riding on the clouds, shining like the sun….” As I joined in with the singing and worship yesterday, I felt the thrill of the moving of the Spirit and thought, this could be the moment, in the twinkling of an eye when I will fly away. I was filled with longing expectation for the promise of His return. The Bible tells us it will be like any other day but suddenly the trumpet will sound and we will be caught away. I was somewhat disappointed when the song ended and I opened my eyes still standing at the pew.
I don’t know when it will happen but I know it must be soon as I watch the prophecy of God’s Word coming true all around me. As my routine includes opening the blinds, and the birds feeding routine continues day in and day out, one day, that routine will be interrupted with a shout from the arch angel and I will be the one flying away to my new home. Oh! I want to see Him!
