Decorating With Apples

Apple basket.jpg

During the autumn time of the year when apples are in abundance, why not use them in your decorating?

Apples exude warmth in their variety of hues in reds, greens and golds . . . the perfect colors for fall. Just a simple bowl or basket of fresh apples brings a cheery and comforting look to a room. Here are some fun suggestions for using apples in decorating:

Apple Candle Holders

Here is a web site that shows you how to make a simple candle holder out of an apple using lamb’s ear leaves for the apple leaf. It will hold a tapered candle. So cute!

Apple Pomanders

fresh apples
whole cloves
ground cinnamon
ground cloves
ground nutmeg
dried lavender

  1. Stud apples with whole cloves, covering the fruit.
  2. Roll in a mixture of equal amounts of ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg. Leave in the open to dry.
  3. Heap the dried pomanders in a pretty bowl on a bed of dried lavender to fill the room with a lovely fragrance.

Apple Tree

Place florist picks in different colors of apples and attach to a ten-inch (or larger) Styrofoam cone. Cover the cone with apples, and then fill in the gaps with dried leaves. You can also add ribbons or feathers for an attractive look.
