Several of you have asked for information on how to organize your ladies’ group, so I am sharing this brief summary with you. This is what has worked well in our local assembly, and perhaps you can use it as a guideline for your local ministry.

Organizing a Local Women’s Ministry

First and most importantly prayerfully consider who will partner well with you and do well working as a leader and with a team. God will give you direction in making the proper choices of leaders. There are different types to consider:

  • The Organizer – This type of person knows how to put it all together. This is an important skill to consider, but are they also a good people person? Will they follow through after they have outlined all the details?
  • The Administrator – This person is great at the follow through. Now take a look at their people skills and give consideration to that aspect.
  • The Diplomat – This is the person that can get along well with anyone. They have a charismatic and charming personality, or they are simply pleasant to be around. Can they also be a leader?

Of course it is wonderful to find a person who possesses each of these qualities, but we are often not so fortunate. Determine which attribute is more important to you, and choose from there.

This is the format that we use, and there are many variations that can be formed from it.

After choosing each of these team leaders, you can then choose ladies that will work well with them to fill each category. At your first meeting it is important to form a mission statement or statement of purpose. This helps to give direction and keep the focus where intended. Look at it frequently, and be reminded of your intentions. I meet with the coordinators whenever necessary for planning, and they in turn meet with those working with them. This can be done with a yearly planning session and monthly follow up meetings.
