The Daniel Fast

Daniel 10:2,3

In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

Following the example of Daniel, this fast consists of omitting sugar, caffeine, dairy, meat, bread, and solid fats from your diet. It is suggested that you begin weaning yourself from the caffeine and sugar a week before the fast actually begins. The beginning of the fast can be a physical detox during the first few days and some discomfort may be experienced.

You might wonder what can be eaten!

Food to be consumed are all fruits, all vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, legumes, tofu, soy products, vinegar and seasonings. Processed foods are not recommended as well as anything with added chemicals.

It is good to drink a lot of water, and it is recommended to drink pure water such as distilled or spring water. This is a very healthy fast, and many people find that after partaking in this fast, they desire to have healthier eating habits.

There are many helps on the internet including multiple recipes that are suitable. There are also a few variations from one site to another. Just google “Daniel fast”, and you will be amazed at how much if available.

The important thing to remember is that your fast should be a sacrifice and also a time of seeking God. The ultimate purpose is to find a closer relationship with God. By getting our flesh under subjection to all the pleasantries, it is easier to listen to the voice of God and become more spiritually aware. You may also want to include a media fast at this time.

God honors any sacrifice that we make for Him. You will be blessed by your efforts!
