Bountiful Blessings

In the King James Version of the Bible, the word bounty is only mentioned two times.  The word bountiful is likewise mentioned only two times.  However, common synonyms of these words are prominent in the scriptures.  For example, the words abundance and abundant appear in
78 verses of the Bible.  It doesn’t require a literature major to realize how extremely blessed we are no matter which word is chosen to describe it.

Let’s take particular time to recount the bountiful blessings that God has bestowed upon us.  Daily I am reminded of his graciousness and generosity in my own life.  Provision for food and shelter is not to be taken for granted.  It was reported a few years ago by the United Nations
that 25,000 people still die of hunger daily.  In 2016, 550,000 people experienced homelessness on any given night in just the United States.  These are staggering statistics that cannot be ignored.

We are given many reminders in the scriptures to give thanks.  There are four almost identical verses in the book of Psalms that say, “O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good . . . (Psalm 107:1; Psalm 118:1, Psalm 118:29; Psalm 136:1).  The repetition of these verses makes us aware of their importance.

What are the bountiful blessings in your life?  Family, friends, good health, food, shelter, clothing, a great house of worship will start the list.  Take time to contemplate these wonderful
provisions.

Oh, give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good!
