The Happiness Journey

By: Wanda Fielder

_-----Happiness is a journey, not a destination. I read this statement recently, and it has lingered in my mind ever since. How true! So often people are on the search for happiness and tend to look only at material things. Making more money to be able to purchase more things seems to be their ultimate goal. A new car, a new home, new clothing, a better paying job are things high on their list of priorities. Many people are under the delusion that these things will bring happiness only to realize once they have been achieved, the elusive happiness has not been found. They arrived at their destination minus the much-desired happiness, or at best they found it to be a temporary state of mind.
_______ In Psalm 144:15 we are given a wonderful definition of finding happiness. It says, “Happy is that people whose God is the Lord.” Again in Psalm 145:5 it says, “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God.” In Proverbs 3:13 it tells us, “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.” Other scriptures offer the answer to being happy as trusting in the Lord, keeping the law, and even helping the poor. Following the scriptural road to happiness will keep you on a journey that may have highs and lows but will bring genuine happiness to your life.
_______I pray that you will not be deceived by worldly interpretations of happiness but will continue on that spiritual journey that will give you happiness untold. This will be happiness that lasts when all the worldly goods have depreciated, worn out or faded away. Happiness can be eternal! Stay on the journey!
