Don’t Let Your Yesterdays Ruin Your Today

I read somewhere once: “If you are going to live until you die, you may as well arrange in advance for pleasant memories.” Wow, what a saying!  But how can I do that when my everyday thoughts are consumed with my “To Do List” and “How am I ever going to get it all done?” Our lives are filled with many things: heartache and disappointments, financial difficulty, grief or the feeling of having no clue, “What’s wrong with me? Or feeling like a ball of nerves.”

I like the quote “No matter what, don’t ever let yesterday use up too much of your today.”  At times, we travel down memory lane past all of the mistakes that we have made, and if we aren’t careful, we can throw on the brakes and park there.  Take comfort in knowing that we all make mistakes and have heartache, but remember that we must move forward every day.  Your new fresh wonderful day may eventually come around and slap you right back down.  But, I thank the Lord every day I have a new start and I REFUSE to let yesterday ruin my brand new fresh wonderful day.  Personally, I don’t know what I would do without Mondays. I would never go on a diet. I start one every Monday.

I know this day and age is busy, and it seems like we have so much to do just surviving each day.
But, don’t let your yesterday ruin your today. 1) Forgive Yourself: we all make mistakes. 2) Forgive Others: What’s the point of harboring ill feelings?  It will only give you ulcers and keep you counting sheep while they are sleeping like a baby.  3) Trust God and His ways: When life hands you the wrong end of a lit sparkler, trusting the Lord is the only thing we can do.  4) Always Find Good in Every Situation: You may have to dig a little harder to find it at times, but it’s there. 5) Laugh at Yourself: It’s a hard thing to do, but laughing at ourselves brings joy. It creates pleasant memories, for others as well as for ourselves.

It is amazing! If we face each and every morning as a brand-new start, with the joy and determination of a new beginning, the prospects of our todays will lend enough courage to put the failures of our yesterdays behind us. Lamentations chapter 3 tells us that “... the LORD’s mercies are new every morning and that His compassions fail not.” Every day begins with the opportunity to make “Pleasant Memories” that will last a lifetime.

My prayer for you is that no matter what you are facing, you will always find a way to fill your todays with moments that will become tomorrow’s Pleasant Memories.  I hope you will retain knowledge that God’s love, grace and mercy is always shining down on you ... brand spanking new every morning.  How awesome!
